"A strong voice that demands and deserves to be listened to."
Colette Phair is the author of Nightmare in Silicon, which won the Chiasmus Press First Book Competition, and which Alan Moore called “a toxic-shock torrent of bad energy and beautiful language.” Her short fiction and articles have appeared in The Apocalypse Reader, Bitch Magazine, 3:AM, and Women’s Studies Quarterly.
Her upcoming release In Your Shadow tells three interwoven stories about the struggle between genetic inheritance and self-determination, and in 2020 she will also finally release the first novel she ever wrote, the sci-fi Purgatory. She is currently writing her first YA book, Beautiful Monster, about a girl who gets disfigured in a car accident.
Colette has also written marketing and fundraising materials for several progressive nonprofits focused on international development, women's rights, environment, and civic engagement. She has a master's degree in market research and consumer behavior from the Instituto de Empresa Madrid and a bachelor's in politics from the University of California Santa Cruz. She currently lives in Mexico.
"Colette Phair installs the paradise apparatus... She sends back out the terror fear."
"Do you remember when Spielberg’s AI came out and every review seemed to mention that it had long been a pet project of Stanley Kubrick, and then went on to lament what an amazing creation it could have been in his hands? ...While in no way the same beast, Colette Phair’s debut Nightmare In Silicon is the closest analog to an imaginary Kubrick AI that you’re likely to find."
